If you have lost a love one, it can be a difficult time. Collecting a life insurance check may be the last thing on your mind, however, it is going to need to be done at some point. If the person that passed away had a life insurance policy, the only person that can claim the life insurance proceeds is the primary beneficiaries. However, there is one exception to this. If the primary beneficiaries have also passed away, the the contingent beneficiaries are able to claim the life insurance policy on the deceased.
Who do you contact to claim a life insurance policy?
You will contact the life insurance company that issued the policy. Try to find the most statement that was issued by the insurance company and call the 1-800 number associated with that policy. You will probably need to provide them with the policy number which should be able to be located on the statement, as well as verify that you have access to speak about the status of the policy. If you are not a beneficiary of the policy, than chances are that they will not give you any information.
